PU timing belts with cleats

Our cleated PU synchronous belts are made of high-strength thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with an embedded high-load steel wire or aramid fiber core, ensuring excellent dimensional stability and tensile strength.
By welding various shapes of cleats or profiles onto the back of the synchronous belt, this product enables the precise separation and vertical lifting of bulk materials, or achieves perfect step-by-step positioning on automated production lines.

Custom PU Timing Belts with Welded Cleats & Profiles | Precision Positioning Solutions

Our PU Timing Belts with Cleats (Profiles) are the ultimate solution for applications requiring precise positioning, indexing, and synchronized conveying. Made from high-quality thermoplastic polyurethane with steel or aramid (Kevlar) tension cords, these belts offer exceptional tensile strength and tooth shear resistance.

By thermally welding or mechanically attaching custom-shaped profiles to the back of the belt, we help you achieve flawless sorting, separation, and pushing of products on your automated production lines.

Key Features

  • Infinite Profile Customization: We can produce cleats in virtually any shape or size (T-shape, I-shape, U-shape, etc.) via CNC machining or custom molding to perfectly match your product’s geometry.

  • High-Strength Molecular Bonding : Profiles are thermally welded directly onto the polyurethane belt backing, creating a homogeneous bond that prevents delamination and withstands high shear forces.

  • Precision Pitch & Indexing: The integration of timing teeth and cleats ensures perfect synchronization without cumulative error or slippage. The positioning accuracy of the cleats can reach ±0.05 mm

  • Clean & FDA Compliant Options: Polyurethane is naturally resistant to oils, greases, and chemicals. We also offer FDA-approved materials for food and pharmaceutical packaging.

    Attachment MethodsAttachment Methods

Thermal Welding: The most commonly used method, offering high strength and a smooth surface, suitable for most packaging and conveying applications.

Mechanical Fastening (False Tooth/ATFC): For applications requiring extremely high strength or frequent replacement of the guide plates, we offer “false tooth” technology, which secures the guide plates directly to the timing belt teeth using screws.

Manufacturing of the cleats

Cleats are usually made of PU by injection molding. For our broad assortment of cleats, we currently have several thousand different molds available, with additional variants being added continuously. Of course, we produce customized cleats according to your specifications upon request. We are also glad to produce individual small batches. If necessary, we resort to manufacturing by hand or 3D printing.

Welding the cleats onto the belt back

For a permanent fastening, the cleats are welded directly onto the back of the conveyor belt. The spacings between the cleats can be chosen freely. If required, they can be tooth-synchronized, but this is not mandatory.

Nut cleats with feather keys

This Nut cleat system, also called “ATN”, is nuts on feather keys which are embedded in the teeth of the timing belt. Depending on the width of the feather keys, these are provided with a certain number of screw-in threads to which the interchangeable cleat is nuts. ATN system belts, which we also supply on request, are designed with a similar functionality.

Bolted cleats with inlay False Teeth

Bolted cleats for inlay false teeth, each replacing an entire tooth. During manufacture, the teeth are removed at the positions where cleats are to be fastened and replaced by inlay bars made of brass, stainless steel or aluminium alloy and other special materials, The inlay false teeth include several screw-in threads which serve as the base for the interchangeable cleats.

Interchangeable cleats with magnetic system

A relatively new method is the attachment of the cleats by means of a magnet system. Neodymium magnets are applied here, which offer an extreme adhesive force while requiring very little space. The magnets are embedded directly into the timing belt body. The cleats, which are likewise magnetic, can now be simply attached and removed. Compared to other replacement systems, this method enables the fastest and easiest replacement of the cleats.

Cleats with bristles

For the gentle handling of particularly sensitive goods such as textile fabrics, cams with bristles are recommended. The height of the bristles, their material and the distance between the cams can be chosen as required.

FAQ of PU timing belts with cleats &profiles

Polyurethane timing belt mainly has three types core, one is carbon steel core, Kevlar core and the stainless steel core. Carbon steel core is widely used for high strength, Kevlar core is used for timing belt with more flexible feature, as for stainless steel core, it is designed for special use, likely direct contact with salt.

A: This is a common concern for high-load applications. We utilize High-Frequency (HF) Welding or Thermal Fusion technology rather than simple gluing. This process creates a molecular bond between the cleat and the belt base, making them a single, integrated unit. The weld strength is typically higher than the material itself, ensuring the cleats remain intact even under frequent start-stop impacts and high-speed operation.

A: Yes, it does. Thicker or taller cleats increase “back-bending” stress as the belt wraps around the pulley. To prevent root cracking and ensure a long service life:
We recommend specific pulley diameters based on your cleat dimensions.
If your pulleys are small, we can provide grooved cleats or thinner base designs to increase flexibility without sacrificing grip or push strength.

A: Precision is our priority. We use automated CNC welding equipment to ensure every cleat is positioned with high accuracy (tolerance within ± 0.5mm).
We offer both “Cleat-on-Tooth” and “Cleat-between-Teeth” configurations depending on your synchronization needs. This is critical for pharmaceutical or electronic assembly lines where micro-second timing is required.

A: Absolutely. Our TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) material is naturally resistant to oils, greases, and many chemicals.

For the food and packaging industry, we offer FDA/EU-certified materials (available in transparent or blue). These belts are non-porous, hydrolysis-resistant, and easy to clean, making them ideal for direct food contact or wash-down environments.

A: Yes, we specialize in bespoke solutions. Beyond standard T-shaped or I-shaped profiles, we offer:

CNC Machining: Adding grooves, holes, or chamfers to the cleats.
Metal Inserts: Embedding nuts or sensors inside the cleat for heavy-duty mechanical fastening or electronic detection.
Custom Molds: For high-volume orders with complex geometries (e.g., U-shaped grippers).

Of course, we have designers with 10 years of experience to assist you with drafting, and our team of experts provides comprehensive solutions.
